DMX 6fire

Why doesn't terratec provide the DMX6fire with about the same functions as the EWS64 XL and make it work like GigaStudio, Halion or EXSP 24, but then for TTI and TTS files. It's a shame that those owning collections of TTI's and TTS's files can't use them anymore. Would anyone be able to write such software for DMX6fire?

At least the microwave XT is still supported with the DMX6fire.

Hi Luigi,

the DMX 6fire is a soundcard of the year 2002 with a total different architecture than the EWS64, which is a PC-build-in-Hardware-Synthesizer.
You cannot expect from Terratec to develope their own Sampler-Software (like Halion and other more), this makes no sense for a hardware manufactor.
Fortunately Terratec has provided the DMX 6fire with to possibility to connect the Micro-PC and any Wavetable-Upgrade-Board to this card.

To use TTI- and TTS-files anno 2002 anymore you have two possibilities:

1. Convert your TTI-Files to SF2-Files:
At the homepage of Uwe Ghistler (http://www.htwm.de/ukindler) you'll find the program 'TTI-converter'. With this freeware program you can convert TTI-Files to SF2-Files, which can be loaded by other software samplers.
The disadvantage of this solution is a possible loss of sound quality, because the EWS64-Synthesizer offers more sound-settings than the SF2-Format.
Hint: With 'TTI-Converter' you can save samples of TTI-Instruments including the loop-poits too! This is not possible with Ed!son.

2. Use your EWS64 furthermore:
All you need is an old PC for your EWS64 (for example a Pentium 100 or higher), a network connection and the program 'VNC'.
Like this you can work with the EWS64 furthermore even in the year 2002 (with low costs).
I've described this solution in detail at my german homepage http://www.studio4all.de at the topic 'Micro-PC EWS64'.
The advantages of the 'Micro-PC EWS64' are:
a) It's very cheap
b) You don't need a second monitor
c) All settings of the 'Micro PC' can be done with the actual 'Main PC'
d) Sounds of the EWS64 can be recorded digitally (without any loss of sound quality) with the 'Main PC'
e) All TTI- and TTS-Files sound authentically, because they are are played with the original EWS64-Synthesizer

For this moment I develope a english version of my homepage, but I didn't finish until now, because this is really a hard job (Thanks to all people who help me already!).
I hope, that I'll be able to provide the first pre-release of my english homepage (including all hints to the EWS64 and the project 'Micro-PC EWS64') in the middle of November 2002.

To my point of view the EWS 64 Synthesizer is a very excellent synthesizer (maybe even better then some software synthesizers), and its functions are still up to date to my point of view, the funktions don't differ a lot from newer samplers. So it's a shame you can't create GIGAStudio or AKAI files with this synthesizer, but only TTI and TTS which can't be used in other samplers. Conversion to SF2 mostly has bad results.
So to my point of view it's a good synthesizer, with to little possibilities to use the result files, which makes it finally not very attractive to work with this sampler because you're stuck with all these TTI and TTS files.

For me the EWS64 is an excellent synthesizer too and therefore I still use the EWS64 until today.
The second reason for me to continue using the EWS64 is my huge collection of TTI- and TTS-files.
This collection includes many great sounding instruments which I don't want to loose. It's unimpossible to convert all this instruments to other sampler-formats because this would take to much time.
Maybe that anyone will develope a software to convert TTI- and TTS-files comfortably to other sampler formats (for example Halion or Gigasampler) in future. Until this doesn't happen the project 'Micro-PC EWs' is after all a practicable and cheap way for every EWS64-user with a huge amount of of TTI-/TTS-files.
